LENT

I say, The Catholics are onto something with the whole concept of lent... lay off me I know the historical correlations and what it is meant to represent.. but in a modern world, the simple idea of giving up something, a sacrifice... can benefit anyone and everyone.. so being a Jew.. I align myself with the Lent period as well.. leads right up to Passover.. so I combined the two and decided to give up bread with meals... well it lasted less then 24 hours, but today is a new day after all..

BUT- WHO COULD GIVE UP BREAD WHEN THIS COMES TO YOUR TABLE??

starting a new today..?

Dreaming of bread!!!!!!

Put a bow in your hair!

My mom still doesn't let me leave her sight without saying "PUT A BOW IN YOUR HAIR"...

but I gotta hand it to her... things do look better with a little bow: case in point-

Dreaming of all things wrapped with bows

Speaker Series.

Last night my grandparents in-law (does that make sense?) took us to a speaker series, where..
Colin Powell, Condeleezza Rice, and Madeleine Albright spoke. Needless to say, a night with the secretaries of state is going to be interesting. Well it was, but it wasn't as mind boggling or thought provoking as I had anticipated. The one thing I know, is it is so important to stay active and go to things like this.. once removed from academia it becomes so far removed for us. We get into our everyday work schedules and lives, and we forget to take time to think outside the box and be provoked or motivated. or maybe I am just speaking for myself.. I forget to stay actively informed in other things then what is in my lap. Currently I work for a women's cancer non-proft, so naturally my mind may be socially and societally active... but cancer and foundation based... I left my roots of loving to stay informed on greater picture, the world, the politics, the state of our unions. I never want to go for months again without a night like this. It is good for our soul, our society, and ourselves. So start googling what speakers might provoke you.. and get your tickets!!! or just buy their book?

Dreaming of seeing hmm... I might like to see a panel with Netanyahu and Ahmadinejad.. now that would be a hot ticket to get your hands on wouldn't it? KEEP DREAMING...

All in the Fam!

To blog or not to blog?
I am sort of annoyed with myself with the turn I have taken in the past months with this blog,.... the last thing I want is a blog that says, this is what I am doing, look at my pictures.. isn't it great? That is called facebook... and that is why I deactivated.
I am not one to want to look at a blog and think, "YA I GET IT, WE ALL HAVE NICE LIVES AND DO NICE THINGS, CAN'T YOU SHARE SOME INSIGHT OR THOUGHTS WITH ME? DOES IT HAVE TO BE ME LOOKING AT THE BEST MOMENTS OF YOUR WEEK?"
well, I think bottom line- I have taken the approach of- this is something I loved that I did that I want to share with you, and give you my thoughts on....
well, I went with my dad up to Nor Cal to a wedding this past weekend. The groom is my first cousin, my father's sister (who passed away) son. QUICK RECAP: there are a lot of bad feelings about her passing, it was quite emotional, family I had never seen of her heard of or met showed up, and it was A LOT.
BUT, among the emotional roller coaster of a happy occasion mixed with the reminder of a sad one, I always find things I am obsessed with in new places... and here are some

and to bring me back from the great food, hotels, parties:

Families are complicated, frustrating, and hard sometimes.. but ultimately the connection is irreplaceable and irrefutable.
Amazing how sometimes the happiest of occasions in life, remind us of the lowest moments, such as death.
Dreaming of the good times.. grateful for all times.

In-n-Out

I don't know if it is what a hamburger is ALL about.. BUT, I definitely enjoy a big ol animal style splurge once in a while...
